Temporal dynamics in biotic and functional recovery following mining

چکیده

Human-induced disturbance has substantially influenced the structure and function of terrestrial ecosystems globally. However, extent to which multiple ecosystem functions (multifunctionality) recover following anthropogenic (ecosystem recovery) remains poorly understood. We report on first study examining temporal dynamics in recovery multifunctionality from 3 12 years after commencement rehabilitation mining-induced disturbance, relate this information changes biota. examined 57 biotic (plants, microbial) functional (soil) attributes associated with biodiversity services at four open-cut coal mines eastern Australia. Increasing time since was increases overall multifunctionality, soil microbial abundance, plant productivity, stability, but not nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration nor nutrients. responses individual properties varied widely, strongly positive (e.g. litter cover, fine coarse frass, seed biomass, fungal biomass) negative (groundstorey foliage cover). also show that sites more developed biota tended have greater multifunctionality. Moreover, closely most components, integrity respiration. Overall, however, rehabilitated still differed reference a decade rehabilitation. Synthesis applications. The dominant role cover relation respiration, function, C N pools suggests recovering is critically important priority programs. Nonetheless, slow indicates mining likely protracted.

Transplantation of Olfactory Mucosa Improve Functional Recovery and Axonal Regeneration Following Sciatic Nerve Repair in Rats

Background: Olfactory ensheathing glia (OEG) has been shown to have a neuroprotective effect after being transplanted in rats with spinal cord injury. This study was conducted to determine the possible beneficial results of olfactory mucosa transplantation (OMT) which is a source of OEG on functional recovery and axonal regeneration after transection of the sciatic nerve. Methods: In this study...

Temporal Profile of Endogenous Anatomical Repair and Functional Recovery following Spinal Cord Injury in Adult Zebrafish

Regenerated cerebrospinal axons are considered to be involved in the spontaneous recovery of swimming ability following a spinal cord injury in adult zebrafish. We employed behavioral analysis, neuronal tracing, and immunocytochemistry to determine the exact temporal relationship between swimming ability and regenerated cerebrospinal axon number in adult zebrafish with a complete spinal cord tr...

Visual Mining and Spatio-Temporal Querying in Molecular Dynamics

Continuously increasing power of computers brings possibility to model dynamic behavior of the systems studied by experimental nanoscience (single-molecule mechanics, electron and atomic force microscopy) with explicit all-atom presentation by applying various molecular dynamics approximations. Computer simulation in molecular dynamics usually results in gigabytes of time-dependent data. On the...

Functional recovery following head injury among children.

Head injury is a p r imary cause of death and disabil i ty a mong chi ldren and adolescents. In 1985 approximately 78,000 children under the age of 15 were hospitalized for treatment of head injury. 1 On the basis of pilot data f rom s ta tewide survei l lance systems in Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Utah, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevent ion (CDC) est imates the incidence of tra...
